Dog Kennel Plans ... Who Else Wants To Pamper Their Pooch?

It really upset my wife when I took home an old stray dog that not only smelled awful

but also seemed to have no idea he wasn't meant to go to the bathroom in the house. She said if I intended to keep the miserable mutt he would have to live out of doors. So, I went on the internet and typed in dog kennel plans.

I didn't know there were so many alternatives out there for a structure you could make to house your pooch. When you read to the end of this article you will see for yourself. The one I chose included a dog run too.

The crucial thing not to forget is not only does your dog house need to be comfortable for your pet; it also needs to be assembled from materials that will hold up to a harsh environment. You must make sure that the exposed parts of the doghouse are waterproof. This could mean pressure treated wood but the chemicals could harm your dog, particularly if he chews!

The framework and parts of the doghouse that the dog cannot get to could be built with pressure treated timber but you may prefer to use a composite building material or a type of wood, like cedar, that can withstand extremes of weather and is not liable to rot.

Make sure you select a set of plans that not only permit your dog to enjoy the sun but to get into the shade as well. They should also give plenty of cross ventilation. You should provide a sheltered area that you can line with straw or an old blanket if you live in a cold weather climate.

Make sure the kennel is big enough if your dog will be confined for extended lengths of time. Not only will your pooch get bored and pick up bad habits if he is too closely penned in but it is also bad for his health.
