Owning a dog is a decision that should be given plenty of thought as it is a lot of responsibility. Most people think that their responsibilities when concerning their dogs end at feeding them, walking them, and taking them to the vet. They would be wrong as they will also be responsible for making their dog feel like they belong to the family and that they are loved. Just like your own children who receive an education and are taught good manners, dogs should also go through training so that they will know how to behave properly. Dog training can be quite difficult and most people hesitate getting a dog because they feel they will not be able very good at training their dog.
The following shall be some advice that will be able to help people who are new to training their dogs.
The first thing you have to do is teach your dog the simplest commands first. This way, you and your dog will develop a bond through training and you will be able to teach your dog how to react to certain commands. As your dog training keeps up, it is likely that your dog will begin to feel a sense of pride and achievement in being able to carry out your orders, as is the case with majority of dogs. To help with this part of the training, try rewarding your dog with treats whenever they do something that you like. This will give the dog more incentive to follow you. Simple commands that are good to start with would be sit, stay, stop, or lie down, just to name a few.
Next part of your dog training will have to be crate training. This is very important as it will give your dog its own place to get rid of their wastes. This way, you will never have to deal with your dog leaving its waste all around the house. Most dogs would even come to see their crates as their own home.
Your dog training should also include toilet training. This will be necessary if you want your house to stay clean. You have to make sure that your dog knows where he can leave his wastes. You must dedicate a lot of your time to this one task as it is one of the most important parts of training your dog. You can't let them treat your whole house as their toilet.
You also have to go through dog obedience training to prevent your dog from biting. This may be quite difficult since biting is one of the dog's natural instincts. This is especially difficult to deal with when handling puppies whose teeth have just begun growing. Make sure to reprimand your dog each time it begins to bite something like your furniture or your belongings. Do not hurt your dog though. It would also be best if you can scold them firmly without having to scream at them. Make sure that you are consistent with dog training so as to not confuse your dog.
