Dogs in Weddings- Consider Temperament

Some couples find that their "fur-babies" are just as much as part of their family as human family members and friends. Therefore, it's easy to see why many are now making the decision to include their dogs in something as important as their wedding. While "dogs in weddings" is not a completely new phenomenon, the resources available to help dog-owners implement it are new.

You can now find dog clothing, formal attire, accessories and more to make it easier than ever before to include your dog in your wedding. But before you make your final decision about including your dog in your wedding, you should first consider your dog's temperament.

While the idea of including your dog in your wedding ceremony may be great, it could be less fun in execution if your dog does not have a temperament who can tolerate such an activity. As much as you love him, you don't want him to ruin the wedding. So you need to be sure that your dog is prepared and that he has the temperament to allow for him to be part of the wedding.

If it's really important to you that your dog be there, then there are things you can do to help make it easier on him, you and your guests. If you are working with a wedding planner, try to find one who is experienced with adding dogs and/or pets to the wedding ceremony.

You may also find you need the assistance of a dog trainer but that's really dependant on you and your dog. If your dog doesn't like strangers, then including him in the wedding might be stressful for him. If he does ok with smaller crowds, then you may want to keep the wedding to about 25 people or so.

Maybe your dog is a real show-boater who loves the crowds and loves performing on a stage-like area but will not do well at a reception with people trying to pet him, talk to him or play with him. Again, this can all be worked out so that you do not have to keep your dog out of the activities surrounding your wedding.

Remember there are several ways to include your dog in the wedding or wedding ceremonies. Some people choose to have their dog be a ring bearer. For others, just having their dog in wedding photos or reception photos is a great way to include them. Just because your dog does not respond well to large crowds or a formal situation does not mean that you can't include him in the ceremony and/or reception. You just need to find a creative way to do it.
