Doing Your Own Five Point Inspection On That Rented Vehicle

After finding a reasonable price on a rental car

, you likely will assume that your work is done. You probably found an agency that gave you a special discount or offered you the best possible price out of all the agencies you researched. However, you should keep in mind that all agencies are different. That is why there is still some work to be done after booking your rental car to avoid some potential headaches in the future.

One of the things that rental car customers often forget about is the potential for problems with their rental cars. Many people incorrectly assume that since rental cars are typically much newer and are in good shape, they won't experience any problems with them. This is true most of the time, but there are situations that can come up. Customers should not think automatically that their rental cars are in perfectly working order. They should take the time to do a brief examination of the cars before driving away in them.

Customers should take a good look at their rental cars on both the outside and inside. This should be done to make sure there are no visible signs of damage and that the car's fluid levels are adequate, Customers also need to be sure that the car's inspection information and registration are both updated and that every aspect of the car is functioning well. If one of your headlights is not working or your windshield wipers are not wiping well enough, these are both hazards on the road and could cost you with a ticket.

The majority of rental agencies will closely examine each car before actually renting it out to a customer. But since not all employees at these agencies do a perfect job each time they inspect the cars, the customer has some responsibility in making sure the vehicle is in good shape. Although you may not be an expert in auto motives, there are some simple things you can do. Open up the hood of the car and take a peek at the wiper fluid and oil levels. It should be fairly easy to spot a problem if something is not right.

Once you drive a rental car out of the agency's parking lot, you are essentially taking over as the individual who is in charge of it. It will be a lot easier to enjoy your vacation and know that your family members are safe when you take the extra time to do your own inspection on your rental car. It will also reduce the chances of you being liable for something that could have been spotted beforehand.
