Domestic Abuse Victims
According to researches, the tolerance level of people has gone done
. In an age where instant gratification has become the expected thing, it takes very little for provocation of people. So many acts of crime are committed for the flimsiest of reasons. Every day we get to read of burglaries, domestic abuse, child abuse, murder, stalking, physical assault and so many other acts of crime taking place all around the world. Whether the crime is done out of fun, under influence or is pre planned, the trauma that it causes to the victims is immense. There have been so many cases where the victim has never been able to overcome the trauma associated with the crime for his entire life.
Although there are many kinds of crimes being committed every day, one of the most common and heart breaking is domestic violence and abuse. Domestic violence victims are shocked that a person they love and who in most cases loves them too can hurt them in moments of anger or frustration. Somewhere deep down they start believing that it is their fault which could have led to this.
Domestic violence victims are often shy to bring out their problem in the open and this further aggravates the situation. They often keep their problems within the closet fearing loss of family name and also the aftermath in case the perpetrator gets to know about the complain made by them.
Another reason why many
family violence incidence goes unreported is the love and optimism of the victim which makes them think that this might just be the last time. Most cases of family violence involve women or children who are the weaker sex and thus become the victim while the men are the abusers. This does not mean to say that men do not go through instances of domestic abuse but their numbers outweigh women and children. Victims of domestic violence undergo severe psychological problems which include depression, withdrawal from family and friends, anxiety as well as post traumatic stress disorders. Most vulnerable are young children who are victims of domestic abuse. Many of them grow up to be substance abusers or have personality disorders.
All around the world, various efforts are being made to provide support to people of domestic violence. Individual societies, non- profit organisations, governments and others are trying to provide support and compensation to these people. There are several state funded societies in Australia too which provide compensation and counselling services to victims of domestic abuse. All a victim needs to do is let them know about the kind of abuse that they have faced and they will not only provide counselling but also appropriate compensation for the same. These organisations are the beacon of light for victims of family violence as it lets them know that they are not alone in this battle.
