Domestic Violence Arrests Plague Celebrities
In the past few months a number of celebrities have been arrested for domestic violence
. Whether it is an athlete or a movie star, famous celebrities are not immune to the perils associated with domestic violence. These disturbing incidents only underscore that domestic violence pervades our society at all levels. Some of the more famous arrests in recent months include Charlie Sheen, Tito Ortiz and Corey Dillon.
The star of the hit CBS show, "Two and a Half Men", was arrested on domestic violence allegations in Aspen, CO in late December 2009. Charlie Sheen was arrested after the Aspen police responded to a 911 call. An ambulance was dispatched to the private residence but nobody was taken to the hospital. Charlie Sheen was booked into Pitkin County jail for investigation of second-degree assault and menacing and criminal mischief. Mr. Sheen spent much of Christmas Day in jail, but was released after posting an $8,500 bond. It has been reported recently that Charlie Sheen will end up pleading guilty to one count of misdemeanor criminal mischief for breaking Brooke Mueller's eyeglasses.
Ultimate Fighting Championship star, Tito Ortiz, recently gained notoriety for fighting outside of the octagon. The former UFC champion was arrested on April 26 for felony domestic violence. Mr. Ortiz was taken into custody by police responding to a 911 call. When the law enforcement officials arrived at the residence shared by Mr. Ortiz, his girlfriend Jenna Jameson and their two sons, they found visible bruises on the former porn star. Tito Ortiz was then booked into a Huntington Beach jail, but was later released on $25,000 bail.
Corey Dillon, the four time pro bowl running back, was arrested a few days ago in Calabasas, CA for spousal abuse. Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call from Desiree, his estranged wife, claiming she had been assaulted. Deputies reported that the Patriots and Bengals star's wife had some minor injuries. Apparently they were arguing over child custody issues related to their upcoming divorce. Mr. Dillon posted a $50,000 bail and was later released.
Trouble seems to follow many celebrities. Unfortunately, spousal abuse is a crime that involves other people. When celebrities are tied to domestic violence issues the process to repair their career, relationship and reputations can be a long and arduous one.
