So many times, people use the terms "plastic surgery" and "cosmetic surgery" interchangeably thinking that both are the same. This isn't really far from the truth; however, for someone who is looking forward to get any of these procedures done, the last thing he or she needs is confusion.

But is Plastic surgery the same as cosmetic surgery? Although they might look completely the same, the answer is No, they are different.

So what is Plastic Surgery?

Plastic surgery is also known as reconstructive surgery that involves reconstruction, removal of cancerous tissues or moving tissues around. This type of surgery involves fixing a body part or facial feature that is abnormal and reconstructing it to appear normal. Repairing acleft lip, broken nose and other birth defects falls under plastic surgery. Even breast augmentation surgery falls under this category since the it comprises or reshaping or reconstructing the breast or nipple, after a mastectomy.

Another example is nose surgery or rhinoplasty however, if done not because of a natural defect but for aesthetic purposes, this will consider as cosmetic surgery.

Now, what is Cosmetic Surgery?

Cosmetic surgery can also be tagged as elective surgery. This surgery isn't necessary but is usually performed to people who are seeking to get a higher self-esteem. Patients undergo cosmetic surgery to alter a part of their body or features of their face that they aren't really contented with.

In cosmetic surgery, the patient did not experience any deformity or health-issue but rather wants to appear more attractive by making their nose, eyes, cheeks, butts, breasts and other parts of their body almost near to perfection.

Some examples of surgeries that falls under this surgery are breast implants, breast reduction, dimple creation,blepharoplasty (eye-bag removal) and butt lift. Anti-aging procedures such as facelifts, tummy-tuck and hair replacement treatments also belong to this category.

Now that you are well-aware of the difference between these two surgeries, the next challenge will focus on choosing your plastic orcosmetic surgeon. No matter what type of surgery you need, it is important to make sure that your surgeon is licensed and is qualified to perform any surgical procedures. Work only with a surgeon who specializes in the procedure you are hoping to get. Search for certificates and look for the surgeon's background to make sure you'll achieve your desirable outcome.
