Don't buy a 70 watt laptop ac adapter for your 90 watt laptop

If you buy a 70W ac adapter for your 90W laptop,it will work but the center part that black box on the cord will start over heating and could cause the laptop to slow down or even eventually give it no power due to too much stress. Temporarily it should be fine it would take awhile for a new cord to start reacting funny but to be safe i would go with the 90 watt or higher but voltage is more important check the voltage if its plus or minus more than 10volts that is recommended don't use it

It may work under some special conditions:

1)You do not put pressure on you laptop batterywhich may lead to more energy consuming which may result in the failure of the adaptor in providing enough power.

2)The voltage between + and poles of the adapter must be similar to those of the original adaptor which came with the laptop.

A 10 to 20 percent difference may not cause any problem.

3)The amount of current provided by the laptop power adapter (in Amps) should have the same conditions, means that it shouldn't vary from those of the original adaptor more than 10 to 20 percents.

Wattage is less of a problem. Polarity and Voltage is s big issue. If you don't know exactly, don't do it. You may damage a good machine.

An HP Pavilion laptop AC adapter has 4 important components. You should understand these things first before buying the laptop battery charger. This will help you to choose correct adapter.

1. Voltage is energy per unit of charge. Choose correct voltage for your laptop. Most HP laptops have 18.5v or 19v. A 19 volts charger can be used on laptop that needs 18.5v. If possible try to get a charger that is exactly if possible.

2. Amps are another thing to consider on laptop ac adapters. Amount of current is measured in Amperes also called Amps or A. Most Hewlett Packard notebooks require 2.7A 6A. Majority of them with 3.5 to 4.9A.

A charger with higher amps will work on a laptop that requires lower amps. For example if your laptop needs a power supply of 2.7A then a 3.5a or 4.9a will work on your laptop. But if your laptop needs a 4.9a then a 3.5a or 2.7a will not work on your laptop.
