Don't follow the ways of the world!-Marry as a virgin, if not so be a virtuous person- This is the intention of the Lord
The Lord found a good wife for a Lonely Man, this was Isaac
, son of Abraham. There is a very good point to the story, of which gives valuable information that every youth needs to know before he/she marries.
It is God's plan that the two young people who marry each other shall both come to their marriage as virgins:"Before he has finished praying, Rebecca arrived with a water jar on her shoulder, she was the daughter of Bethuel, who was the son of Abraham's brother Nahor and his wife Milcah. She was a very beautiful young girl and still a virgin. She went down to the well, filled her jar, an came back. The servant ran to meet her and said, "please give me a drink of water from your jar." She said, "Drink sir," and quickly lowered her jar from her shoulder and held it while he drank. When he had finished, she said, "I will also bring water for your camels and let them have all they want." She quickly emptied her jar into the animals' drinking trough and ran to the well to get more water, until she had watered all his camels (Genesis 24:18-20).
No one can say that Rebecca had no chance to have pre-marital sex, because she "was a very beautiful young girl." Plenty of boys would have desired her. But she had faith in the Lord, and kept herself pure. Please note that she had already been "chosen" by the Lord to be Isaac's wife. Of course neither she, her parents, Isaac, nor anyone else knew it as yet. But in God's sight she was already "Mrs Isaac." God calleth those things which be not as though they were (Romans 4:17). It is a mistaken notion that fornication (sexual intercourse between unmarried people) is not sin like adultery (sexual intercourse outside of marriage). If any boy had had sex with Rebecca, the Lord would have looked upon it as adultery, for she was already "Mrs Isaac" in His sight, even from birth.
When the Lord proclaimed in the ten Commandments, "Thou shalt not commit adultery," He meant fornication as well. It is all the same, because every person is already "chosen" by the Lord and known by Him because He sees the end from the beginning. Any woman who is not your married wife, given you by the Lord, is "your neighbor's wife," for the Lord has not yet given her to be your wife. This is why the Lord says:
Can a man take fire in his boom, and his clothes not be burned? Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? So he that goeth in to his neighbor's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent (proverbs 6:27-29).
The Greek word for "adultery" (moicheia) means the breaking up of marriage or the disregard of the obligations of marriage. But the Greek work for "fornication" (porneia, from which we derive pornography) means literally any unlawful sexual intercourse. Therefore adultery includes fornication. The Lord is kind and merciful. He is not a "kill-joy". He never gives a commandment unless it is for our good. "God is love, and that is why He says:
"It seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, to lay upon you these necessary things; that ye abstain from fornication (Acts 15:28,29)." "The body is not for fornication, but for the Lord. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body. Ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's (1st Corinthians 6:13, 18-20)." "But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, as becometh saints; neither filthiness, or foolish talking, not jesting. For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God (Ephesians 5:3-5)."
Corinth was a city and civilization given to fornication as a way of life. In fact, almost the entire Roman Empire was full of immortality, as was the world before the Flood. Into this corrupt society came the teachings of the gospel of Christ, with an entirely different way of life-a way of purity and true love. It has uplifted the world, for all true progress has been the fruit of this teaching.
In fact, all religions include teaching against fornication. But the faith of Jesus is different, because it not only tells us to abstain from fornication, telling us what to do, but it also shows us how. The "law" tells us what to do, but the 'gospel' provided the power to do. If Christ had merely told the world what to do, He would have accomplished no more than Confucius or Zoroaster. Christ saves us from fornication by taking our place, living and dying in our stead as a perfect sacrifice for sin, and by creating a new heart within us, a heart renewed in His perfect likeness. He is a living, all-powerful savior from sin, not in sin. By imparting His true love to us, He casts out all false or counterfeit love, which is fornication.
Unless Rebecca had been pure, she might not have been sensitive to hear the voice of the Holy spirit prompting her to show hospitality, and to water those Camels. The idea came to her while she was holding her water pot for Eliezer to drink. This kind of Hospitality of heart is not usually found with immortality of character. There is usually a resultant hardness of heart, a lack of concern. Rebecca had prepared for a happy marriage and for a place of great honor. She believed in the Lord as did Isaac, and it was this faith that enabled her to remain pure and become truly beautiful. The girl the Lord had "Chosen" for Isaac was the one he could always respect and love. If Isaac had traveled all over the world looking for a girl, he could not have found one the equal of Rebecca in every way, When the Lord does something, He does it well!
Here is a true story of a young woman who did not have Rebecca's faith. It can be multiplied a million times in the big cities. Masha is 34, unmarried, a mother of three boys 8 years, 5 years and a 6 month old boy. She is a well-paid secretary in one of the biggest cities in the country, yet she lives on the verge of starvation. In a time of distress, her mother had left her rural home, came to the city, and lived with a man without marrying him. She bore him seven sons and three daughters. So Masha remembers only a childhood of poverty and depair, because her mother's unmarried man was always drunk, she says, "I can't remember my father ever buying me a dress or a pair of shoes." His money was his alone-he was the "big lord." The liquor bar got most of it every pay day."
Fortunately, Masha was able to go to high school and she was also able to do some training as a secretary. Her poor mother needed support, for Masha's brothers all followed their drunken father in squandering their money on alcohol but how to get a job? Finally a man took "pity" on Masha and offered to introduce her to the right connections so she could get one. His fee? You can guess. Ten months after wards, she bore him a baby boy, and the man? He left her. Masha's mum was very angry- here was another mouth to feed.
Finally, Masha did get a job, but by the time she paid for a maid, relatives and rent, she was still penniless all the time. But just then a solution appeared-was it from the Lord? She found a man willing to share the bills with her, if only.... Well, would she live with him as his mistress? Thus, Masha's second boy was born a year later, The man? He too left. She began to wonder if the Lord or Satan had provided this "solution" She stayed away from any other men for four years, and then it happened again. A new friendship resulted in another baby boy. This time she felt she loved the man and she wanted the baby, but not another boy. The third man? One guess is enough. He left.
Now Masha struggles to rear three fatherless boys. The only hope she clings to is that perhaps one of her boys will someday far in the future grow up to be a real man and help her out of her situation. Good salary but yet not enough. Well, this unfortunate situation can as well hit women who are legally married, no one is saying if you are married, you are immune to such cases but still yet, it is far better to marry and marry the right person. It greatly reduces the risk of reaching such a situation.
It's no use telling Masha, "Don't-you might get pregnant!" Fear won't solve her problem. She needs faith in a savior who lived and died for her and whose sacrifice for her makes her a member of God's family, a princess of the King of kings. Masha is like everybody else in the world-she is not good of herself; she needs to be saved by faith, the same faith that Joseph exercised. If only she had had such faith when she was young she would be happy at 34, filled with confidence and self-respect, and perhaps, who knows, happily married and secure.
But she was willing to join herself to an unbeliever; she was willing to "pay" for a favor by giving her body- the basic principle of all prostitution. Masha does not need to be condemned; she needs to be understood and helped. Without Christ we all fail miserably, but by His grace we can overcome gloriously.
