Don't Be Tripped Up By The Need To Avoid Common Workplace Accidents
Given the amount of time that people spend in their work
, no one should be shocked to hear that there is a high chance that if they are to suffer an accident, it is more likely to happen in their place of work than anywhere else.
This makes sense but it doesnt mean that people should resign themselves to being involved in some work-associated accident befalling them at some time. Knowing what the most common forms of accidents are will give people a better idea of what to look out for, which should hopefully help to minimise the risk of being involved in an accident. No one wants to be involved in a work-related accident and every employee and employer should be doing what they can to reduce the number of accidents.
The most common work-related accident is slipping or tripping, which means that paying attention to the condition of the floor will go a long way to helping everyone avoid being involved in an accident.
Anything which impacts on the integrity of the floor may lead to an accident and it stands to reason that a slippery or wet floor is often the instigator behind an accident taking place. There are many reasons why a floor may become wet but with proper vigilance and common sense, the impact of a wet floor can be minimised without too much hassle.
It is easy to see why a floor inside the main door where people enter and exit the building will be likely to become wet. As people trudge in from outdoors, there is every chance that the floor will be wet from the soles of their shoes, shaking off umbrellas or the rain dripping off their clothes. Firms should pay special attention to the floor around the entrance and exit points of their building and if there is a cleaning team, they should focus on these areas at busy times. If a floor is wet, leaving a 'wet floor' sign or notice will alert people to the fact that the floor may be unsafe, which should allow them to walk around the affected area of walk safely where they can.
Employees can also play a part in ensuring a workplace stays safe by cleaning up any spillages that they have caused or by alerting safety officials about major spillages on a floor. Avoiding the affected area and alerting others is the most sensible approach to ensuring that people can avoid injuring themselves, although common sense and paying attention to while moving around will always be of benefit in the workplace.
