Dont Fall For The missed Delivery Scam When It Comes To Parcel Delivery

A lot of people order goods over the internet these days whether it is a music CD

or their weekly food shopping, ordering online can often save us money as well as a trip to the shops and has revolutionised the way people buy many different goods and services.

As someone who may have had an item ordered online delivered you may be familiar with the calling card the postman or courier leaves at your home, this is normally to let you know that they tried to deliver but you were not home (possibly in work already). Sometimes they will leave instructions as to where you can find the parcel, some couriers will leave the parcel with a neighbour or a secure place such as the garage or your garden shed.

Recently, a well known phone scam has surfaced where cards have been left at homes in West Yorkshire that didnt even know they were expecting a parcel. The card asks recipients to call a premium rate phone line to get information on how to get this unexpected delivery (which of course never materialises!). This scam often shows up at key times during the year, such as Christmas as many people will likely be expecting a parcel to be delivered at some point.

In order to not fall victim to this scam there are a few measures you can take to ensure your safety and the safety of your money. Firstly know whether you or anyone in your household was expecting a parcel, it may be addressed to you but it could have been someone sending a gift so you may not have been expecting a delivery. The second measure is to always check when ordering online which courier or service is going to be used to deliver your parcel, if a different card comes then ring or email the retailers to check that this is the right company you should call up about the missed delivery.

Make sure youre safe online when buying, always look for the secure lock icon when entering personal details and always use strong passwords when setting up accounts for buying online.
