Dont Make These Mistakes If Your Computer Crashes

Computer crashes are nearly unavoidable

Computer crashes are nearly unavoidable. If you own a PC, the chances of you dealing with a computer crash and data loss at some point are very high. Dont believe it? Take a look at these statistics:

* 31 percent of PC users have lost ALL of their files at some point due to events beyond their control

* A hard drive crashes every 15 seconds

* 1 out of every 5 computers suffers a fatal hard drive crash during their lifetime

* Nearly 60 percent of all PC users have lost a file they thought they had stored safely

This list could go on and on, but you get the point now. Computer crashes are very common, and its important that you know how to react should your computer ever crash. The first few moments after a computer crash are critical, and any mistakes you make can be very costly.

To minimize the damage and give yourself the highest odds of a successful outcome after a computer crash, avoid these common mistakes.

Mistake #1: Panicking

When you are faced with the prospect of losing all your data and having to spend money on a brand new computer, its only natural to panic. You feel helpless, desperate, and overwhelmed, but you have to compose yourself and not let your emotions get the best of you.

According to one survey, more people commit an act of computer violence (banging their machine, yelling at it, etc.) than call for help when dealing with a computer crash. Sometimes, people give up all hope, and just toss out the crashing computer.

Rather than panicking, remember that your data can very likely be recovered with the right help and programs. Get tech support to see if theres any way to restore your files before you panic and kill any chance of this.

Mistake #2: Attempting to restart the computer

A common reaction to a computer crash is to attempt to turn the machine off and on until it works again. But in the case of an actual hard drive crash, all this does is make the problem worse. If you hear your computer making a grinding noise, rebooting it repeatedly will cause the portion of the hard drive that stores your data to keep getting scratched again and again, making your chances of data recovery that much lower.

Your best bet is to turn the computer off and take it to a tech support expert to see if any data can be recovered.

Mistake #3: Not restoring music, videos, and photos from your Apple device to your computer

Think that youve lost all your music, videos, and photos? Think again. If you have them stored on an Apple device (iPod, iPad, or iPhone), you can actually use the program GizmoRip to restore these files to your computer. This program lets you transfer iPod to PC, so you can put the songs, videos, and pictures that are on your Apple device back on your computer when it is repaired or when you buy a new one.

Remember, a computer crash doesnt have to be a complete disaster. Avoiding these 3 mistakes will help you minimize the fallout.
