Don't Speak Technical Jargon Outside Of Work

There is no question that there is a lot of areas in the industries that many of us do not understand

. One of the reasons that this is the case is because we all talk about our industries that where work in industry jargon. That is, without question, one of the dumbest things that we all do.

Have you ever thought about the people that you are trying to talk to and how much they do not understand you and they do not care to. However, we are all excited about what we do for a living, whether excited in a good way or in a bad way. We either want to vent our frustration or we want to share our enthusiasm with those around us.

One example of this comes in the simple industry of grinding and mixing. This may seem like a simple industry and the concepts in general are easy to understand, but the technical jargon is the thing that can confuse people and have them lost in a heartbeat. For example, grinding media sounds like some sort of audio equipment to mix some rap music or something. The reality is that this simply is referring to the little beads of steel balls that are used to grind things down or in mixing things like paint.

Another great example of this type of technical jargon can come in the food industry. You may wonder how that can be complicated, but there are machines and processes that are greek to many of us who do not work in that industry. For example, not many people know what a levain tank is, but those who make French breads sure know what it is. They use it on a daily basis.

So one way to make sure that you do not bore the person you are talking to that is not familiar to the industry that you work in is to not use technical jargon and explain everything. This will help them to understand what you are talking about and they will be able to follow the conversation a lot better. If they start to look bored, it may be time to stop talking about your job.

If the person you are talking to looks a little confused, then try explaining things in more detail. Look for visual signs to know if they are still interested or not. There face will tell you all that you need to know.
