Door Handles - Don't Take Them For Granted

Door handles are the most undervalued devices in modern society

. When have you given a door handle the credit they truly deserve? In order to appreciate them, one must look at what they are and what they do. A door is anything that that can swing, slide or rotate to enclose an entrance. They may or may not be mounted on hinges. A handle is something that can be used to open or close a door. They can be pulled, pushed or twisted.

So where in society do we find door handles? They can be found on front doors, back doors, in desks, on cupboards in bathrooms, kitchens and filing cabinets, in cars, trucks, shopping centers, high-rise apartments, or electricity boxes. The list is endless. In fact, think about how many you have used already today.

They are used to make our life easier. Yes, we could push a hinged door but then think how we would get back out the other way once the door is closed. The completely sealed door must be pulled. Very hard to do if there is not a handle provided. The same can be said for sliding doors.

Some door handles can be locked. Locker doors, for example, have locks in their handles to provide security for objects when not being used, front doors can be locked to protect our televisions, computers, jewelry and other worldly possessions, and lastly toilet doors can be locked to provide a private and uninterrupted time to carry out our daily duties.

Door handles can also be used as a decorative feature. This is because they can be molded to form many different shapes: short and round, long and skinny, or recessed in. They can also be provided in a choice of finishes: shiny metallic, matte metallic, powder-coated, ceramic or plastic. They can come in a range of colours: black, white, gold, silver and painted to suit the decor of any building, cupboard or car. Finally, they can also be painted or decorated with folk art, stickers or tiles.

A door handle is a highly functional and clever piece of equipment that needs a lot more attention.
