Double Glazing - The Best Type Of Windows For Cold Regions

Double glazing is a process wherein two panes of glass are installed

, with a space in between the two panes. This was invented way back in the 1930s and was first known as Thermopane. Some materials that are used for double glazing are aluminum and timber.

The space between the two panes is called a spacer. This spacer separates the two panes in an insulating glass system. This serves as a sealant to the space between the glasses. A desiccant, or a drying agent is used to remove the moisture in the space while construction is being done. When the temperature goes down, the desiccant would prevent water forming within the spaces.

Traditional spacers that were used for double glazing were mostly made of metal. However, metals are heat conductors therefore weakening the ability of the spacer to reduce heat. Now, technology has gone better so spacers have been improved. The latest technology for spacers is the use of foam which can reduce noise and heat more effectively. When condensation appears in between the two glass panes, this is an indication that the sealing process was not effective. This cannot be repaired so you will need new ones to be installed.

If you want to have your windows to be double glazed, it does not necessarily mean that you would have to have your old windows removed and installed with new ones. This can be done by adding a secondary glazing to your current windows. This will be a lot more cost effective than having new windows installed.

Double glazing has a lot of benefits in addition to helping keep the house warm during the cold days. It can serve as protection, it can reduce noise pollution, and it can make your house look more beautiful. Though it can cost you more than by installing the normal usual windows, double glazing certainly carries with it many benefits that you should not just ignore.
