Do you and your husband fight over the bathroom sink?

Most households today include two incomes, which means that you and your spouse need to get ready and out the door to work by a specific time.

If you're like my husband and me, you need a double sink vanity.

Don't get me wrong - it's not that I don't like to share. But when I'm standing over the bathroom counter curling my hair, my husband is trying to brush his teeth or shave. There's just not enough room for both of us!

After a few years of sharing the bathroom sink, we got smart (I know, sometimes it takes awhile). We started to look at double sink vanities.

Wow, there's a lot out there! We found styles and prices galore, from a few hundred dollars for a simple vanity with two sinks, to more than $2500 - and that didn't include the faucets or installation.

Here's what we found:

1. You want to decide ahead of time on your bathroom style. Do you want to go contemporary? Modern? Traditional?

2. Determine a price range first. Double sink vanities come in a wide range of prices, and you could get bowled over by a lovely design. That's okay, if you've budgeted for it. Otherwise, stick to your original plan or you could end up with a half-finished bathroom and no more money.

3. Decide if you're going to install it yourself. You may live in an area where a licensed plumber is required by law to install your new vanity. That's okay, as long as you've planned for that, too.

4. Measure your wall space. You'll need to know what size vanity you can place in your chosen spot.

5. Be aware that faucets, back splash, and sometimes even the sinks are not included in the cost of a double sink vanity.

6. You may want to shop online first. This will give you a rough idea as to what's available, and then check out your local stores. Sometimes you can get a great deal online (you can ship almost anything these days!), and sometimes you can get a better deal locally.

In conclusion, don't be afraid to think outside the box, and consider adding another sink. My husband and I added our double sink vanity about a year ago now and we love it. No more crabby mornings. Double sink vanities are the next best thing to marriage counseling!
