Russo-Young is an incredibly talented young director. You Won't Miss Me cannot be faulted for its technique, which is astonishingly impeccable and deserves all the praise it has received. But a film so artistically accomplished should have correspondingly strong content. Russo-Young's film is the beautiful pastry in the bakery window that never tastes as wonderful as visually promised. Quarterlife angst loves company, and 81 minutes without reprieve is nearly impossible to weather with sunny disposition intact. Though expertly formed, ultimately, You Won't Miss Me is as dissatisfying as its aimless protagonist.

Jalmari Helander manages to get pretty much everything right, making the film equally suitable for children or adults by serving up borderline lunatic escapades with a commendably straight face. As a result, the film at times benefits hugely from a real sense of danger, thanks also to a handful of reasonably gory and visceral scenes early on.
