Instead Ghost Recon Predator is a traditional, third-person Ghost Recon games, just the PSP and has a lot of problems. It's not all bad, but there are certainly enough threads to mean that anyone who is not a hardcore Tom Clancy game fan might want to keep their distance.
Before you get your hopes up, you know that this is not a tactical shooter based on classic movie Predator. If it did, it would have been funnier, and it's really a shame that Ubisoft has not made a kind of license magic to make that happen.

You control a group of three Ghosts, which you can switch back and forth from at will, each of which you choose from out of a pool of eight soldiers before each mission starts. Ghosts come in four different classes with different weapon types and specialties for each. By completing missions, each with Ghost, they earn experience points and level up, which increases their stats. As such, you will most likely stick to the same group of three soldiers in the entire game, unless you really want to try a second class combination.
The story is largely irrelevant, and was never really convincing. This is not helped by the snippets of voice acting, which is typically sub-par at best. Everything you might remember from the end is that you have spent a lot of time in Sri Lanka, some guys died, and some things blew up. You are never given any reason to worry about your teammates, situation, or citizen game sometimes ask you to save.
Since this is a shooter trying to work on a PSP, you can expect that this is another reason to curse the lack of second analog stick on the system. You would be right in thinking that. The game tasks analog core of both motion and orientation, with ability to switch in and out of "free aim" mode by pressing the X button. While in free aim mode, you can still move and strafe, hold L shoulder button, which is better than nothing, but the whole process feels clumsy.
It also feels clunkier when you try to use cover. You get in and out of cover by pressing the square button, which in itself is fine. But to pop out of cover to shoot enemies, you have to hit X to go into free aim, and while in the free aim you do not have a particularly large selection of shooting. So if an enemy chooses that moment to walk up beside you and start shooting, the process of trying to remember which buttons to hit to get out of coverage, turn around, come back to free aim and Then shoot is far more complicated than it should be, and can result in a lot of frustration.
It might not be so bad if your teammates were able to watch your back, but the truth is that AI in the game are absolutely terrible. Your allies will spend most of their time to run into objects that try to shoot through walls or doing absolutely nothing while neither they nor you are shot to hell. And if you decide to check them yourself, you may find that they inexplicitly have walked away from the fight, or is turned in the wrong direction. You can play with a pair of human mate if you want to try to solve this problem, but you have to play locally, and you all need copies of the game.
Enemy AI is sometimes clever, though. Brilliant, actually. On occasion, an enemy decide to simply stop fighting and cower behind cover, and never resurface. This is a genius move, especially because you can not go on many sections, until every enemy is dead, forcing you to hoof it all the way to the offending soldier and shoot him from close range.Sometimes, it's a long ride.
You have some opportunity to order your teammates to either attack a specific enemy or go to a specific location, but they are not usually good at following orders. Although they were, the game is not actually designed in such a way that you really need smart tactic, at least on normal difficulty. You can easily run and gun your way to victory without ever having to open your tactical map.
If you ignore these and other problems that still are played not very captivating. When not shooting enemies, you spend most of your time planting C4 on things and see the rather dull explosion. Then you rinse and repeat for about six hours until the game ends. Along the way you see some really horrible character animations that looks like they're moving at about three frames per second, especially when the character is far away.
All these terrible things being said, there were some moments where we had legitimate fun with Predator, and it makes us feel like the idea of a portable Ghost Recon maybe not all bad. But Ubisoft has to put some serious effort into the controls and mechanics if they want this franchise to have a bright future in handheld. As it is, Ghost Recon Predator has a lot of ambition, but not nearly enough polished.
