Grab your dragon balls, it's about time for the second installment in the DBZ franchise.Developed by Namco Bandai, Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team lets fans see a decent game adaptation of the popular Japanese animated series. The game hosts a variety of features including 2 vs. 2 battle, ad-hoc multiplayer, a campaign that covers the entire original Dragon Ball Z story.

Fortunately, Namco Bandai has a lot to prove with Tenkaichi Tag Team as follows in the wake of last year's Dragon Ball Evolution, which of course flopped harder than a declining meatball. This time, however, they have stuck to the original series instead of trying to promote unimpressive live-action film of the same name. The result? Dragon Ball Z: Tenkaichi Tag Team is a promising title for devoted fans, but will lose appeal to newcomers to the franchise.

On the positive side, there are over 70 characters to choose from, along with nine unique stages. Apart from Dragon Walker, carries you through the entire DBZ story from the Saiyan Majin Buu episodes, you will find a variety of modes, including survival, education, and our favorite, Battle 100th

Possibly the most engaging of the various modes, Battle 100 allows players to recreate the great battles in the Dragon Ball universe. But if you're looking for more of a challenge (which this game definitely needs more of), so we recommend to play through survival mode. You will find nothing surprising here, but fighting continued waves of enemies without heckling of the game's less than funny dialogue is a nice break.

Although the action style and gameplay of Tenkaichi Tag Team celebrate what made Dragon Ball universe so unique suffer game from too many limitations to qualify as a worthy complement to the series. For starters, the campaign is flat and does nothing to promote new stories. Instead it feels like Namco stupidly condensed the story into a boring frames and held it together with lots of dialogue.

Between battles in the campaign moves you around the world looking for new enemies and information that will lead you to the next battle. Unfortunately, this feature of the game poorly designed and becomes a chore, as you move through the campaign. Even more insulting is the bobble-headed look given to each character as you move from one place to another. Once a match has started but you fell into an arena where the characters look almost identical as they do in the show.

Fortunately, Dragon Ball Z's bread winner is its slick fighting mechanics that simulate the fast action of the show. Each ability is accounted for and is somewhat easy to learn. Are mostly button-mashing a winning strategy. However, you coordinate your attacks carefully to win. Our biggest complaint about the fighting mechanics are the barriers that surround every battle zone. Fighting along these barriers can trap the enemy and easily disrupt the flow of battle.

Apart from these and other properties are Dragon Ball Z Tenkaichi Tag Team an easy to play from start to finish. If you're a devoted fan of the series who want to revisit the DBZ universe, then this game is definitely worth your time and dollars. For gamers just looking for an exciting fighting game, it's best to leave this one on the shelf.
