Question: If Iron Man can fly, why has he stumbled into every pitfall of the superhero genre? His game is messy, confusing and at best as good as Catwoman or Batman Begins. Which is not good at all.
In this game film of the comic, you are the titular Iron Man - disabled billionaire inventor Tony Stark - in his rocket-booted iron suit, out to thwart evildoers. The heart is a shooter-up with a great air-to-surface combat, although you can land anywhere and punch things.Most, however, the gameplay boils down to 'shoot orange targets - blue targets optional'. Worse, there is zero skill involved in the shooting itself - holding the button fires your repulsor as fast as pressing the fast and automatic lock-on makes it impossible to miss, even from miles away.

The game even starts you off well - Iron Man's graphics look their worst at ground level, so introducing you to the game without the ability to fly is, while chronologically accurate, a mistake. In addition, ground combat is worse than in the air, especially as Stark's initial weapon is the least enjoyable flamethrower of any game ever - it can not even set cloth awnings fire.
Once airborne, occasionally - through fast-changing objectives - you lose track of what you're doing, and the game will just keep respawning enemies until you figure it out. But some levels require you to resist such an attack, so it's hard to know if your enemy intended to attack in waves, or just respawning because you have not triggered the next event. There is no way to tell. AI is bad for, are often unable to move around obstacles.
But there is actually some skill needed to succeed. Tactical play is possible with various useful abilities - re-routing power to the thrusters, life support, weapons and melee attacks on the fly. It feels like you've got a state-of-the-art robo-suit at your command. But ultimately, success almost always comes down to a trial and error 'restart mission' option.
The plot is decent enough, however, and his voice is passable, though the script repeats itself throughout each level. So every time you reboot, you hear the same old advice, one-liners and even telephone calls again. Cut-scenes appear pre-rendered, but oddly feature pop-up and re-draw, so it looks nothing like the movie. Also, the FMV camera has a habit of changing, at every opportunity, no matter which angle you can look down best comic pin-up Pepper Potts's top, even if it means seeing a conversation from the ceiling. Whose idea was it? It's not sexy or even in comic style - it just feels a bit embarrassing.
