? My answer is no, if I think about Ray Charles. Though this legend is not between us today, he will always live in his music. This writing of mine is a tribute of this great musician.

The original name of Ray Charles was Ray Charles Robinson. Born on 23rd September, 1930, Ray Charles belonged to the black community on the western side of Greenville. His eyesight was lost when he was a child. Fate continued playing cruel to him as he became an orphan when he was just 15. Crossing all these obstacles, he became a shining star in the sky of American music. Although he learnt classical music but he had his soul in jazz and blues genres. He stated earning by playing piano after the death of his mother and left the education behind. Talking about his married life, he had two wives. Darkness once again surrounded him as he was charged and arrested in narcotic cases. He lost the fight with life on June 10, 2004. He was 73 then. One of the most popular and loved voices, Ray Charles also had a keen interest in Chess.

One of the songs which gave Ray Charles ample prestige and honor as well is "Georgia on My Mind". Released in 1930, Ray Charles Georgia on My Mind was honored as the official state song of the U.S. state of Georgia. It was re-recorded and converted by many artists after then, but the one from Ray Charles is the most loved one. Taking about the fame of this song, it hit the top position on the on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and remained there for the whole week in the late 1960. In March 1979, Ray Charles presented this song before the Georgia General Assembly and after that, the Assembly adopted it as the state song.

Many people know Ray Charles from his another blockbuster, "Hit the Road Jack". It came in the year 1961, and became a big hit soon after its very release. Ray Charles paid a tribute to Jack Kerouacs novel On the road through this song. Written by Percy Mayfield, Ray Charles Hit the Road Jack became number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 in October 1961. The R&B Sides chart also ranked it number one for five weeks. The achievements earned by this song and of course, Ray Charles too didnt stop here only. It was also ranked 377 on the list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" by Rolling Stone magazine.
