What did I do to deserve this, my lord? 2 is brutally difficult. Not that I do not appreciate a good challenge - I do - but some games are so difficult that they inhibit your ability to enjoy them at times. And unfortunately, my Lord 2 is such a game.
My Lord 2 takes a very simple idea and makes it one of the most unique game I ever played. The basic premise is that you are a god who has the responsibility to protect and assist an evil tyrant named Badman, and you do it by digging networks of tiles in complex dungeons monsters to walk through. Digging up specific tiles that are loaded with nutrients or mana unlock various monsters (more powerful monsters are created by digging up tiles with higher concentrations of mana / nutrients). The most basic kind of monsters are collectors, major weak creatures that can absorb nutrients or mana out of a tile and then move it around to others in the dungeon. Players are responsible for not only creating complex dungeons that will take the heroes a long time to get through, but also with making enough monsters, spreading nutrients / mana around efficiently so the player to create higher-level defenders.

Things get even more complex here, also to create a dungeon and managing nutrients is only part of what it takes to make a good death trap for heroes. It would be one thing if you just had to arrange for nutrient / mana came piled into tiles to make the most powerful creatures, but my Lord 2 forces the player to create a small ecosystem. Each level of being is consumed by the next higher level, making it so players have to balance the quantity of each type they have. Doing so will reward players with free creatures - as creatures that eat others will breed - and also can cause them to mutate into stronger forms. If all that sounds like a mouthful, it is because ... well ... it is. Creating a complex dungeon that confuses attackers is a hefty task already (especially since you have given a limited amount of time before attackers come), but having to manage an ecosystem, and make sure you have strong enough creatures to win is even hard .
I have not even broken down all the details and minutia of what you can do in a dungeon, but says anyone who would take this whole investigation. The point is this: My Lord 2 is quite complex and is both fun and frustrating because of this. When I manage to create a dungeon that works, it is filled with life and awesome units, I feel like a champ when I easily took down a wave of heroes. More often than not, I would create a good looking dungeon, teeming with life, only to see heroes who stomped all over my face. I played through the game's tutorials (some of which are annoying locked in the beginning), but I still felt like I was more lucky than good when I managed to complete an area in the game. It says something about the core mechanics that I found them interesting enough to want to try again and again, despite receiving multiple beat downs, but my master 2 is ultimately only entertaining in short, lest you get so angry you burst a blood vessel.
Construction and management of dungeons is both addictive and often anger-inducing, but the game managed to make me smile again and again. Like the first game is to write in My Lord 2 great laugh not only at the player, but on stereotypical gaming conventions. History may ultimately be forgettable, but the protagonist Badman is immediately endearing. If you decide to pick up the game, I can not urge you enough to avoid mashing the X button in an attempt to skip the dialogue, which Badman's advice is one of the best parts of the experience.
If you need a break from the campaign, you may get a slight change of pace out of the game's other modes. The challenge levels works well to train you in how to handle specific situations - such as how to create a specific list of creatures as quickly as possible - but they're still incredibly difficult. But if you're into the game's key mechanics and is not looking for a challenge, you can create your own custom dungeon in Badman's Chamber. Here in the hall, you can specify what type of heroes you want to meet, set nutrient mana level dungeon, and even start with already upgraded units, it's fun, sure, but it does not have the quirky dialogue, you get by playing through the game's history.
Concluding remarks
My Lord 2 is one of the most unique games I've played. It takes a very simple idea and turns it into a crazy, complex puzzle that can cause both elation and frustration. I love the ideas behind it and the writing is fantastic, but the game could definitely use an opportunity to change downright brutal difficulty.
Still, if you're looking for a game you can come back to again and again for something you plan on playing over a long period, My Lord 2 is a great option.
