Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta BSP is a devoted politician who has held important positions in the Indian political system. Presently, he represents Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the Rajya Sabha. He was first elected as the Mayor of Lucknow in the year 1993 and is hailed as one of the youngest Mayors of the world. He is a remarkable leader with inherent leadership qualities and pledges to commit his life in serving humankind for a common goal of brotherhood and peace. His sustained endurance is the key of inevitable progress, improvement and development of many unprivileged people in different strata of societies. His constant approach in bringing about changes has also gained momentum among many young and upcoming politicians. Dr Gupta was elected to Rajya Sabha (first term) in 1996 and was re-elected for second term on 26th November 2002. His par proficiency got him elected again for the third term consecutively in November 2008. He has been a member of several Parliamentary Committees as well as National level apex Advisory and Statutory Bodies such as AIIMS. He was also the secretary of the Congress in May 2003. Dr. Gupta has been a member of Executive committee of AICTE. Over the years, he has taken new responsibilities and manifested major impetus for implementation of governmental guidelines, policies etc effectively.

In his successful political career spanning over many years, Dr. Akhilesh Das Gupta BSP has made notable efforts and added new attitude accelerating development and progression of the nation. He has served as Chairman, UP Congress Traders' Cell for two years and was also the Joint Secretary of UP Congress. From 1996-1999, he was appointed as the General Secretary of UP Congress and has also served as Vice President from 1999-2002. He was Secretary-Congress Party (in Parliament) from November 2003 to May 2005. He has also served as the Chairman of Election Authority Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry for Congress Organizational Election in 2004-2005.

He strongly believes in accelerating the growth of economic development, high-tech education, equality and socialism while preserving its morals and ideals.
