Dressing To Impress When Networking

Coming across as confident and in control is the most important goal that you want to establish when attending a networking event

. Your personality and attitude go a long way to creating the impression of being in charge. However, let's be honest, looks do matter and can help you attract attention. There always are people dressed from double breasted suits, to jeans and gym sneakers. However, a down the middle professional look is recommended.

It is important to look professional and approachable, but you do not want to look too formal or too casual.

If it is a typical networking event, than you should generally wear what you would wear to your job. We are not talking about casual Friday's, but rather a nice a nice blazer would be sufficient and it does not have to be with a tie. Plus if the event is a bit more casual in nature, than you can take off the coat and hang it up in the room.

Gray shirts are always nice, as they look professional without being too formal. To make you stand out, various colors can be worn as accessories. Men should always be clean shaven and both men and women should have their hair in place.

Knowing what not to wear is also important. Funky jewelry stands out to much and will make you appear immature. If you have tattoos, you should cover them, and other than one in each ear, we recommend removing any piercings. The old-fashion clean cut look is still preferred by most business executives.

Clothing and accessories are not the only ways to make yourself look presentable. Smiling is simple and goes far in making you appear genuinely happy to be there. This also will disguise appearing nervous which is common. Act as if you are meeting a bunch of friends and your natural smile will shine through.

Posture is also important to remember. Stand up straight and do not slump. It is also easy to fold your arms, but try to avoid this. You want to show that you are interested in the conversations that are taking place.

Dressing professional will help you shine through at networking events. Never forgot to look and act professional at all times during networking interactions. Do not let yourself be remembered by what you wear or do not wear, as you want your ideas and intelligence to make yourself stand out.
