Driving Advice To Avoid The Common Windscreen Threats
When driving along on the motorway or the main roads in the UK there are a lot of
seemingly hidden risks and opportunities for your cars windscreen to get damaged whilst you are driving. All it takes is one small object to hit at high speed and it can cause a chip or knock in the glass that if left over time could develop into a serious problem.
There are ways though that we can limit the chances of any objects hitting our windscreens and even if they do then there are also ways to make them less likely to cause serious damage too. The first thing to bear in mind is that when objects hit your windscreen on the road their impacting force is made much stronger because the object is travelling at speed but so are you in your car. By slowing down and not driving aggressively objects will hit your windscreen with less force and so if they do strike your car then they will not be as likely to cause serious damage.
A lot of stone chips and other falling debris occur most frequently on the motorway when we are driving at high speeds but also where large lorries or trucks can lose bits and bobs such as screws or bolts that may fall off these vehicles and land on your car. Whilst driving at high speeds on the motorway cannot really be avoided as you may hold others up you can still give this type of vehicle a wide berth when overtaking or following them in traffic.
Keeping your distance when larger vehicles are in front is always a recommended practice as you may not be able to see what is ahead of them like you would with normal cars and if you had to brake suddenly then driving too close to these vehicles will often result in an accident with your car coming off worst.
When driving in areas with a lot of trees overhead you should be careful of any falling objects such as acorns as these could also cause damage if you were whizzing past at the wrong time.
There are plenty of opportunities where you could experience a chip or crack on the roads and sometimes despite following all of the advice listed here there are times where damage to your windscreen is completely unavoidable but help is at hand with mobile windscreen repair and replacement services that can come to your home or place of work to carry out repairs or even replace the windscreen altogether.
