Driving In London

Its never easy to drive in main cities and towns

, there are too many cars and not enough roads, and everybody seems to wants to go to the same place at exactly the same time, rush hour! Whether it is drivers trying to get to work or a parent doing the school run, rush hour has to be worst time to be driving anywhere.

On the motorways a 50 mile journey can be done in less than an hour, in a city like London 10 miles can take 2 hours. The number of traffic lights, the number of other road users multiplies massively in towns.

From personal experience whenever Im looking to buy used cars in London they are always in worse condition than those in the countryside. I seem to travel up north a lot looking for a car in good condition and at the right price. Cars in London always seem to have scrapes, scratches and little dents all over. Mechanically cars driven around the city suffer a lot more than cars in the suburbs; city driving puts a lot of strain on parts like the clutch and brakes.

At least the drivers in London are well mannered and polite, well most of the time anyway. In other cities its chaos, there are no road manners, rules or any form traffic management, its dog eat dog and you have to be forceful to get your own piece of tarmac.

I imagine drivers in London have a lot more frustration built up; this causes more accidents and more traffic infringements. There are more cars to hit and more traffic lights to jump, so as well as their cars, drivers in the country are probably in better health than those in the city!
