We often hear about drug tests but many people lack a good understanding of what they really are
. Many people think that they are nothing but oppressive tests that are only meant to single out those who use illicit substances and alcohol so they can be penalised. However, what is often overlooked is that these tests are meant to identify those in society who are starting to have or have existing problems with the use and abuse of drugs and alcohol.

Urinalysis requires a urine sample, and a hair drug test requires a hair strand sample. There are many differences between the two, for instance a hair test eliminates false positives, it allows for retesting and it is tamper proof. A urinalysis is none of those things other than being much more invasive. Many companies and legal sectors are starting to favour the use of hair samples because it is proven to be more effective.
Drug tests also do more than just determine the absence or presence of controlled substances in an individual's system. They provide a report of the illegal drugs that may be present in the body of an individual. It can also help experts analyse how long these substances have been in a person's system or when was the last time that an individual has taken his or her dose of illicit drugs.
It is important that we understand that these tests are being conducted as a means to maintain a safe environment. They are also conducted so that the authorities can identify those with a problem and determine what kind of help they may require. Promoting a drug policy of zero tolerance promotes a safer environment for schools, businesses and society.
