Dryerase wall calendars are designed from white boards and are set up like traditional calendars; the blocks are blank and need to be filled in with days of the week, numerical dates, the month, and any notes and events the users need to add. The calendar should only be written on using a dry erase marker. These markers come in many colors and a particular color can be assigned to each family member. Bright colors work best, as they stand out and are difficult to overlook.

Size and Placement of Dry Erase Wall Calendars

The point of using a calendar is to keep every family member updated; therefore, its placement is important. The calendars come in various sizes and depending on the size purchased they can be placed in any area of the house. Ideal placement is on a refrigerator where each member of the family can easily view and make any necessary changes to the calendar first thing each day. Hanging a dryerase calendar by a main door or mail center in the home is also a great idea. Dryerase markers (particularly those of the magnetic variety) and an eraser for the board should be kept close by.

Cleaning a Dry Erase Calendar

The up keep of dry erase wall calendars is extremely simple and part of the reason they are preferred to chalk boards. Like the chalk board, anything written on a white board can be erased; however, the dryerase board does not produce any dust and erases more easily, leaving behind little trace of what was written. Keeping a dry erase calendar as bright white as possible is as simple as giving it a thorough cleaning at least each month (doing this when entering into a new month is a good idea). This can be done by purchasing a commercial cleaner or by making your own mixture from vinegar and water and putting it into a spray bottle. Spraying the cleaner on the board and wiping with cloth or paper towel will lift off any markings that may have stained the board.

Dry erase wall calendars offer many benefits to families striving to stay organized, but they do not keep record of that organization. Once something has been erased from the calendar it is gone for good. Hang the dryerase calendar out of reach of young children who may be tempted to draw on it and erase information. Having a head of household keep a personal planner with all of the family's events in it is a clever way to record keep and ensure the safety of special dates that need to be remembered.
