Dumb Lawsuits That Cost These Companies A Fortune
Businesses and companies may lose a lot of money for not adhering to labor laws and not following proper safety procedures
. Many established and well known companies have been fined for not following proper safety procedures, and some have even been sued. A popular supermarket has been sued because a 13-pound piece of meat that was hanging fell on a woman's head, and she had claimed she developed migraines and severe headaches. If the company had simply found a safer way to hang meat, they would not have been sued.
A common way they could have prevented this is by having federal labor law posters reminding them of proper safety procedures when handling and storing meat. A restaurant that is well known among southern Californians has been sued because a woman slipped on the peanut shells customers are allowed to throw on the floor. While this is a unique feature to the restaurant, it can be quite dangerous! The woman had sued because she stated that she had not known or seen of any peanut shells on the floor, however the company clearly states it as it's staple and unique custom which is featured in the restaurant.
While playing a simple game of baseball, a young man was struck in the head after the opposing team had hit the ball, causing serious injuries in his head. Given that this was not intentional, the pitcher had an edge because the opposing team was using an aluminum bat designed to give a harder hit. The pitcher had successfully sued for $1 million dollars.
Another more popular case involving a popular fast food chain and their coffee is very well known and has been told many times. A woman had sued after spilling a cup of coffee in her lap, however this coffee was extremely hot and the woman suffered from major burns. However this fast food chain is known for following safety procedures and had given a warning that the coffee was indeed hot; she did not follow safety procedures and set it down to cool first. This chain always follows safety procedures and has labor law posters up at all times, reminding the employees to take proper safety procedures and notify the consumers of any imminent danger involving the temperature of their food or drinks.
One of the main reasons businesses and companies get sued is because they do not follow safety procedures, and consumers catch them when they aren't looking. A common way to prevent this from happening is to constantly remind employees of labor laws, and even have labor law posters hanging in the workplace to remind and familiarize employees of the procedures. Not only do companies and businesses end up being sued, but so do regular people! People should take caution in all the actions they do, as it may accidentally hurt someone. While citizens do not have to abide by labor laws, I'm sure the story about the young pitcher from Idaho will change your mind!
