Dumpling Festival - A Legendary Affair

According to legend, a Chinese poet once sacrificed his life by jumping in to the Milo River to put an end to the corruption and injustice which prevailed in the region. In an effort to save the poet the local fishermen are said to have thrown rice dumplings in to the river while they took to their boats moving up and down the river. To commemorate the death of this Chinese poet Singaporeans organized a festival of nothing but boat racing and eating dumplings, thus the Dumpling Festival was born. The Dragon Boat Races which takes place are a wonderful spectacle for the visitor, as the races are fiercely contested events.
