Another means the device used to keep itself fresh to the end users was the adoption of additional devices that made its use ever more exciting. One of the premier inventions that helped the television reach out to the market was the advent of technology that allowed us to take our own video images and then immediately view the results in our homes. A trip to the beach or the zoo or Christmas morning with the kids could be shared quickly and inexpensively with family and friends.

Home movies joined in the march to progress with the addition of video cassette recorders that could record and play programming either from the television or from movie cameras designed to that purpose. Home productions of very great quality now allowed proud parents to share the day by day development of the little ones with friends, grandparents and siblings at a reasonable cost. The early cumbersome models were replaced by handheld devices that could be conveniently taken anywhere.

Using the television as the central source of family fun, a position it has held since the middle of the last century, manufacturers just kept working toward providing all manner of entertainment in an easily available, inexpensive, easy to use format. Rapidly the home was gaining the ability to provide every manner of excitement for the family that one could normally only achieve by visiting a number of different venues. It was proof that this was a medium that would likely continue to be an American mainstay.

With an unlimited supply of movies, documentaries and games, online DVD rentals combine all the best of technological progress to the home entertainment concept. At a cost rental stores and programming providers can not achieve, one is afforded the opportunity to select any imaging product one desires from the home computer, which may be a hybrid of the television anyway, and have the selection or selections delivered. Combine it with the local online pizza delivery options and one may never have to leave your house again.
