If you insist on using QuickTime player to play DVDs on Mac OS X, depending on the type of your DVDs, there are two solutions out there. 1) If your DVDs are the commercial ones encrypted by CSS or Region code, you can use a Mac DVD ripping software to copy the DVD movies to hard drive and convert them to QuickTime format. 2) If they are common DVDs (without encryption) like home-made DVDs, you need to download and install a MPEG-2 playback component to your Mac computer. And then insert your DVD to the disc drive, open "Finder" to locate the DVD file and drag & drop the file to the QT player icon in the Dock to play it. You can also right click the "D" drive and go over to open with and select QuickTime.
