Q. We are familiar with Microsoft Visual Studio and we do in-house programming in C++, C# and VB.Net. Are we positioned to modify GP interface without appealing to Dexterity

A. The answer depends on the depth. If you do not need new table creation and registration in Dynamics.set (one of the Dex dictionaries listed there) then you are positioned to do the job in VST (Visual Studio Tools for Dynamics GP). If the objective requires new user defined table then it should be created in Dex. So it is a combination of tools. If you are generic MVS developer then good idea is to get some training in Sanscript and table creation and custom module packaging in Dex (chunk file)

Q. In our case we are using Great Plains DOS and we believe that it is version 9.5. Is Dex the way to do modification?

A. No in your situation it is archaic version of Great Plains Accounting. It is earlier prototype of Great Plains business logic but it has nothing to do with Dexterity. GPA DOS is no longer supported directly from Microsoft Business Solutions. We have Great Plains Accounting knowledge base finalized in Excel format by Microsoft in earlier 2000 so feel free to call us for support. Customization here is not recommended. The best way is to upgrade to Dynamics GP 2010 first and then appeal to Dex

Q. What we need is to place one custom button on SOP Entry form and we are selecting Invoice should need to pop up customer credit limit form as we are in highly risky advertising business. Are we in Dexterity realm?

A. Probably not as what you are talking about could be realized in Modifier with VBA scripts. However you need license of Customization Site Enabler in order to use Modifier module

Q. We need Dexterity customization to be expanded to Project Accounting and probably also Fixed Assets modules. What would you recommend?

Q. We are trying to find developer for our Dex customization project. The candidate indicated that he doesnt have access to Source Code. What does it mean and is it a show stopper?

A. In some complex projects developer might need review scripts created by Dynamics GP coders. There is program at Microsoft where company subscribes to Source Code. It is usually distributed in the form of Dynamics.dic with Sanscript codes in it. The dictionary installed by default on your client workstation has these codes stripped out. If you project is regular we do not believe that it is showstopper

Q. Is it possible to do development project remotely or we have to find local consultants only?

A. It might be difficult to find local people but in our experience Dex software development is usually done via remote access
