E-learning Systems A Force For Good Or Evil!

Until recently, the internet had always been more of a play thing than a serious

tool for research and business promotion for me, I hadn't even heard of e learning systems, but due to a change in direction with regards to my career, I have found myself having to understand more about not only how it works on a technical level but how it can most effectively work for my business too.

This is a situation that I imagine more and more people are finding themselves in as needs must and diversification becomes the key to staying ahead of the game.

To this effect I have found myself in the previously undiscovered area of e learning and have found the internet a fantastic resource for developing my understanding of all things 'e'.

One of the best things about the world wide web, is the generosity of so many people wanting to share their knowledge and experience with you for free, and to that end, I have been taking full advantage of as many people's website, blogs and the wealth of newsletters and article sites to bolster my knowledge and broaden my understanding of everything from the different types of e learning software out there, through to the different ways that companies and individuals are putting these different e learning solutions to best use.

Today I have been mostly looking into people's thoughts about LMS (Learning Management Systems) and peoples attitudes towards them, and it strikes me that some people who use them are not particularly happy campers.

The perception that an LMS is used merely as a method of auditing staff attainment so that boxes can be ticked, as opposed to seeing them as online assistance or as elearning tools to support your staff, is in my opinion, a little harsh and rather cynical as a point of view.

The use of an LMS should always be seen as a positive, assuming that your particular e learning system has been suitably tailored to your individual company's needs. The emphasis for the student has to be on the Learning part of the system and although the Management part of the system can be an extremely useful resource for any employer, ultimately it should all be about delivering knowledge or training in a clear and efficient e learning platform that will hopefully engage the learner as well as it teaches them.
