The export import policy (EXIM policy) of India has been instrumental in making it a major part of the world trade .However , there is a need for a comprehensive view to be taken for further development of the country's foreign trade. DGFT (directorate general of foreign trade) which is accessible online gives all the necessary information and support to people thereby helping in the promotion of India's foreign trade by implementing various export promotion schemes. Traders are issued a unique exporter importer code number necessary for import and export trade in India. The strategy is to shift focus from a regulator to that of a trade facilitator. Quality complaints of foreign buyers are also dealt with and the input output norms are set.

It has been a well known fact that along with incorporating the present norms it is necessary to go much beyond them so as to attain new heights in foreign trade. For this purpose the norms are reviewed every year while the EXIM (export import) policy is reviewed every 5 years by directorate general of foreign trade and implemented with better norms .DGFT (directorate general of foreign trade) related online services available at various sites act as a resource centre for trade information and monitoring agency for imports and exports. For achieving new heights in foreign trade the export import policy (EXIM policy) is updated by directorate general of foreign trade DGFT every year on 31st march and the modification, improvements and new schemes become effective from April of each year. After 5 years the EXIM policy needs general amendments so as to improve the overall export and encouraging trade. The EXIM policy was updated by the directorate general of foreign trade recently in August 2009 .Online services provide the updated policy and the reviewed norms. Known as the New Foreign Trade Policy it is valid for the period 2009- 2014. It aims at stopping the declining export and doubling the export of goods and services by 2014.Thus the overall promotion of export has been kept the main objective of our new foreign trade policy.
