Facebook now introduced a new feature which will allow retailers and other merchants to offer coupons and special deals through its mobile application on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Facebook plans to work with nearly two dozen major chains like H&M, 24-Hour Fitness and McDonalds, etc. for special offers. Thereby, it will intensify competition in the market for mobile searches and advertising without a doubt.

With this application, merchants can push deals out to their existing customers and hopefully will attract new customers just through their mobiles. Besides, they won't be charged for listing coupons and special deals on Facebook directly. Instead, they can purchase advertising to publicize their offerings there.

The introducing of this feature solved an age-old problem that local businesses have always had. Consumers wished local businesses can be online, but it hasn't always been clear for those businesses that what the benefit is. And now, this deals platform gives the answer. It will attract those fans, those visitors, those eyeballs by real dollars, real people and real business.

Local retailers are now able to offer several different kinds of deals, including one-time offers and loyalty rewards, as well as "friend deals," for those who check in and "tag" multiple friends. However, there are still questions. Consumers may be worry about the realness and safety of this online deal. According to Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and chief executive of Facebook, it is difficult to defraud the system since people will be required to be present at a store in order to redeem the coupon.

Comparing with Google which is also the primary hub for both business and consumers on the Web, Facebook has two obvious advantages. Once deals are published to their Facebook news feeds, alerting people will share them on their page. And then the number of people who know about it broadens.

Since it is just a very beginning of this application, the new feature is available only through the Facebook iPhone application. Android users can find local deals through a dedicated mobile Web site. But, with the large user base of Facebook, it has no doubt that this feature will be invited to other Smartphone's application.
