Easy Homemade Kitchen Hydroponics System

You can easily make a simple yet effective flood and drain kitchen hydroponics system. The following method shows you how to do so and there are no requirements for expensive electricity except for some light if you do not have enough natural lighting into your kitchen.

The Requirements for this homemade kitchen hydroponics system are as follows:

Two large bucket of about five gallons each

A few feet of flexible half inch tubing

Clean gravel

Some fine mesh plastic screen

A grow medium of your choice

A platform to set the apparatus on

One of the two buckets will contain the kitchen hydroponics garden; the other will contain the nutrient solution. Both buckets need to be clean. Cut a hole in each bucket, about half an inch from the bottom. Connect the two buckets with the tubing and be sure that you have enough tubing so that you can lower your nutrient bucket to the floor while leaving your plant bucket on the top of the platform.

Next put about two or three inches of gravel in the bucket that will hold your kitchen hydroponics garden. Lay your screen on top of the gravel so that it prevents any debris from your grow media from clogging the tubing.

Now add your grow medium into the grow bucket. Perlite will work adequately here, but there also are many other types of grow media available, such as coconut - the choice is yours. Now you are ready to get growing with your kitchen hydroponics system - plant your seeds or seedlings at this stage.

At this time your grow bucket should be set on the top of the platform and your hydroponics nutrient bucket should be on the floor beneath the platform. Fill your nutrient bucket and then lift it onto the platform. The nutrient solution will flow through the tube and flood your plants. Once the grow medium is well moistened, place the nutrient bucket back on the floor and the solution will flow out of the grow bucket, draining your plants.

You will need to make sure that your kitchen hydroponics system is well flooded several times a day, depending on the type of grow medium you have chosen to use and the environmental conditions that are prevalent in your kitchen. You should also ensure that the nutrient bucket is covered to keep impurities out; additionally, be sure to stir it occasionally to keep it oxygenated. You may also aerate the nutrient solution with an air stone and aquarium pump.

This easy homemade kitchen hydroponics system can be placed in a spacious kitchen so that you can harvest your herbs or vegetables as and when you desire.
