Eat Fat, Look Better

With all the talk about eating low fat foods, people often forget that they actually need fat in their diet

. By steering clear of all fats, you are denying yourself a lot of healthful benefits--not just for the inside of your body, but for your skin as well. Eating healthy fats actually keeps your skin hydrated. It also helps promote the growth and reproduction of healthy cells.

The reduction in intake of Omega-6 oils as found in processed foods, such as snacks and desserts, and an increase in intake of Omega-3 oils found in fish, avocados, walnuts and other natural foods will help to prevent acne.

So you are not confused by what constitutes a healthy fat, it is a monounsaturated fat that comes from natural sources like nuts, avocados, oils (olive and coconut), natural peanut butters and almond butter. As you can see, these foods have nothing added to them which make them good for you and your skin.

One of the leading causes of acne is inflammation. If you are eating high saturated and

trans fat foods like those found in processed foods, fast food and junk food, inflammation is going to be a major problem as they significantly increase inflammation. However, by consuming foods that contain monounsaturated fats (healthy fats), inflammation decreases and acne has less of a chance of occurring. In a 2005 paper published in "Seminars in Cutaneous Medicine and Surgery", eating more foods with monounsaturated fat, like almonds, showed a significant reduction in the acne symptoms of some people.

Aside from nuts, avocados and almonds, tuna, whole grains and salmon are also good sources of monounsaturated fat. Coconut oil is another healthy fat that is gaining in popularity as a natural skin care product. The vitamin E and nutrients in coconut oil replenishes damaged skin and also protects your skin from free radicals. For acne sufferers, coconut oil is great for clearing up blemishes and preventing future break outs. What is unique about coconut oil is that you can actually put it directly on your skin as a moisturizer if you do not want to use it in your foods. It protects your skin from bacteria and dirt that can cause acne.

Healthy fats continue to be a great source of nutrients for your body both inside and out. For weight loss, these foods are ideal as the healthy fat keeps you fuller longer so you do not overeat. Not too many foods can help you lose weight and keep your skin looking great.
