Eat More: The Key To An Active Metabolism

The energy used by the body is measured by the unit of heat called calories

. By regulating the amount of calories ingested and utilized by the body, weight loss occurs. We need calories to supply us with the energy we need not only for physical activities but even for the most basic physiological processes. However, if we take in more calories than we are able to make use of, these excess calories turn into stored fat. One the other hand, if we drastically cut down the number of calories we consume, our bodies will switch to starvation mode by slowing down the metabolic rate and we burn lesser calories.

A 1,200 calorie diet is acceptable but it is much better to get a more accurate count that is based on factors such as the dieter's age, frame and activity level in order to lose weight more effectively. According to studies, women are able to lose more weight when their caloric consumption is less than the target amount.

Because a dieter's body weight, energy level and metabolism are constantly changing, some dietitians say that there is a need to adjust their caloric intake accordingly. This should be done in order to create a balance between the energy put in (measured in calories) and the energy used.

The key in effective weight loss is to make sure that your metabolism is working efficiently. This means that the calories one consumes are utilized allowing for weight loss. The following are tips to help you keep your metabolism active:

Never skip breakfast. Because it is easy not to eat breakfast, many dieters think that they are able to reduce their caloric intake the easy way by skipping it. Wrong. During the night, your metabolism slows down and does not burn calories as effectively as it does when you are awake and up and about. Therefore it needs something to kickstart it in the morning and eating breakfast is the way to do it. If you don't feed yourself in the morning, your metabolism will remain sluggish throughout the day and you lose your chance to effectively burn energy.

Be careful about stuffing yourself either. A small amount of food is sufficient. Bread, fruit or dairy produce is enough to get your metabolism going.

It's okay to snack, in fact it is beneficial if you are trying to lose weight. You can eat something every two hours because these mini-meals keep your metabolism high. It also keeps you from feeling so starved that you end up bingeing. Just make sure each snack is within 200-400 calories only.

Plan your meals. This will keep you from giving in to the temptation to eat what you don't need. If you decide ahead of time what you will eat based on your anticipated schedule and activities, you will be able to provide yourself with the sufficient amount you need without compromising your diet. At the same time you will have more energy and you will be able to focus more on your work throughout the day. Remember though, that only healthy snacks will do and fiber is your best choice.

You may find these tips difficult to follow at first but once you try them, you will find body will adapting to the routine and when that happens, you will start losing all those excess pounds without having to worry about the side-effects that result from quick and easy weight loss methods.

As soon as your body gets into this routine, you will find it easier to lose those excess pounds continue to remain active. Soon enough you will be on your way to a healthier you without having to worry about any side-effects.
