A recent study conducted in Australia showed that when overweight people took doses of omega-3 fats (approximately 3g daily) lost more weight than those who did not. Participants were split up into two groups; both groups completed a structured exercise program of 3 bouts of 45min high intensity running each week. Both groups were given the same calorie controlled diet. However one group was instructed to eat 3g of omega-3 fats daily. The omega-3 group lost an average of 2kg over 3 weeks! They also showed a reduction in their LDL bad' Cholesterol levels by 10%! Amazingly these same benefits were not seen in the control group who underwent the same exercise program but did not take fish oil.

In addition Omega-3 fats have a powerful effect on metabolism because it decreases insulin activity. Insulin is a hormone in the body that promotes carbohydrate storage and can promote weight gain. Without insulin around, the body is able to switch on its fat burning enzymes and break down stored fat.
Other reasons to include fish oil into your diet are that it may help curve dieters depression. It has long been known that we need healthy fats in our diet to keep our hormones balanced. Balanced hormones help us feel good mentally and physically.
