Eating Disorders: Pathways To Obesity

One of the most widespread types of eating disorders is overeating

. But do you know that there are actually many sub-categories of overeating? Knowing them allows you to understand why people eat too much of what is on the table. Here are several of these disorders:

1. Binge Eating

This type of overeating is about eating a large amount of food in a short while. It is not conclusively an addiction or disorder, but it may be an indication of of Binge Eating Disorder (BED) or Bulimia Nervosa.

2. Overeating From Super-size Meals

Supersize meals are taking the country by storm and aggressively marketed, especially in North America. People who consume these meals regularly get used to eating bigger quantities of food than necessary. Consuming lots of supersize meals can lead to poor nutrition and obesity.

3. Emotional Eating

A lot of people, when feeling upset, unhappy, stressed, anxious, or distressed, tend to devour food in large amounts as a way to cope up with the emotion or to deaden the trauma. Some usual images of emotional eating are a girl eating a quart of ice cream after a an altercation with a sweetheart, a middle-aged woman consuming on huge bowls of pasta when she has PMS, or a stressed-out guy who munches on donuts while being dumped with reports to make.

4. Fast Food Addiction

Fastfood is not healthy, but it is tasty and easy to get. Lots of people who rely on fastfood because of their busy lifestyle are especially prone to overeating. The combination of sugar, salt, and fat are addictive, resulting in a big turnover of high-calorie food.

5. Social Eating

Executives, businessmen, and other high-ranking office staff are constantly forced to eat socially during sales conferences, dinner meetings, and corporate events. While moderate social eating is a healthy and engaging activity, too much of it can result in to obesity and food addiction.
