Eating Healthy Isn't As Difficult As You Might Think

Eating healthy has been a trend for quite a long time now

, but most people don't really understand what "eating healthy" really means. What it doesn't mean is only eating salad, drinking water, and completely forgetting about red meat.

Having a healthy diet is about more than just eating your vegetables and trimming off the fat when you order a steak; in fact, it's perfectly fine to not trim the fat off of your steak if you don't want to. Eating healthy is all about eating things in the right portions and never overindulging in any particular food. Eating more of one food than you do anything else creates an imbalance in your diet that can be harmful to you. If you catch yourself eating one thing more than anything else, make a conscious effort to slow down on that particular item.

Another way to eat healthy is to understand that not all foods are created equal. While pasta and rice can be good for you, try to avoid eating the processed boxes of pasta and rice that you can buy at the grocery store that include all the seasonings for a "healthy meal". Read the ingredients on the back of the box; if it contains words you can't even begin to pronounce, put it back. Instead of buying box meals like this, keep your kitchen stocked up with a wide variety of spices and seasonings, especially the ones that you use most, like salt, pepper, seasoned salt, garlic salt, curry, and et cetera. The seasonings used will vary from home to home, but you get the idea. This eliminates the need to buy expensive box dinners (which are usually nothing more than pasta and a seasoning packet!) and helps create a more healthy diet for you and your family.

Something else to do is to try and incorporate as much organic food into your diet as possible. Genetically modified foods have crept quietly into our grocery stores and most people don't understand the difference, but the truth is that GMO foods have been genetically modified to certain specifications, usually resulting in a severe loss of nutritional value. Organic foods also are not contaminated with chemical pesticides. Organic meats are healthier and taste better, because the animals aren't given chemically enhanced feed and are not given growth hormones.

Last, but not least, don't forget to filter your tap water. Tap water is loaded with pharmaceuticals and other chemicals that your local water processing plant isn't equipped to filter out and some things that are even put there intentionally, like sodium fluoride. Filtering out these chemicals is one of the best places to start if you want to live a healthier life.
