Ebook Designer Experts Say Your Book Will Be Judged By Its Cover
An experienced Ebook Designer understands the harsh reality when it comes to how customers view your book: A customer will judge you by your cover
. I know that it seems tempting to think that people would never do such a thing, but they do - and they do it all the time. Even I am guilty of doing this without even realizing it.
This is something that an Ebook Designer & you as a writer must prepare for, which makes your book's cover one of the most important factors in how well it does in your niche. If the Ebook Designer creates a cover that looks horrible, it will mean that you lose many positive first-time impressions your book would have had. That Ebook Designer's poor performance hurts you in the long run because it means that your book will sit all by itself on the shelf as many potential customers pass it by. Why is that? Blame your Ebook Designer.
The Remarkable Power Of A Good (Or Bad) Impression
Let's face it. We have all walked down aisles in stores. It could be grocery stores, CD stores, book stores, and so on. If you were to come across an assortment of cookies, would you buy the box that has a cover of a delicious cracker shown in detail, or would you buy a plain box that just has the word "Crackers" on it for $.20 less? Don't get me wrong. People who shop on price will buy it. The problem lies in how many people won't buy it.
As customers, we shop by what grasps our attention. Many cover designs in the grocery store scream out to us saying "Look at me!" & "No! Don't look at that! Look at me instead!" If there is nothing to look at, then we likely will not even look there. We may not realize just how easily we ignore the plain items in the grocery store, not even thinking of giving those pitiful, plain items a chance - except to shoppers shopping for the lowest price of course.
For ebooks, there is no such shopping habit. People do not buy ebooks based on what is cheaper, but based on the impression that this book is something that they want. This changes the entire game of how to attract a customer completely. You simply can't afford to be boring. You also cannot afford to be too complicated. An Ebook Designer must accomplish the task of creating a cover that tells your reader a story in itself without giving too much or too little information.
That is how you entice the customer to want to pick up your book and think: "This is interesting. I want to read more." An Ebook Designer that knows how to create a 3D cover that is realistic & compelling enough to impress your readers could be the difference between your book being a best-seller, or a complete disaster.
