I see it on a daily basis. I meet with people daily that are getting ready to construct a new home and they are in the market for one of our services / systems but opt. out because of the cost premium our systems will be compared to the bare bones systems people have been living with their entire lives. The Solar Panels, Solar Water Heaters, Geothermal Systems, and even Spray Foam Insulation usually get value engineered out of the plan. Ninety Nine percent of the time my systems are value engineered out of the plan long before we are ever contacted for a bid. I don't think people really consider our systems fairly because they are in the background and not as pretty as a pricey kitchen. We feel this trend is changing as consumers become more aware of a high performance home and they are hearing about some incredibly low utility bills from their friends that do have our systems.

People can get a functional kitchen in their home for roughly $10,000 including cabinets, countertops, fixtures and appliances. A kitchen such as this might not look great but it would do the job, prepare a meal. However we find ourselves bidding on homes that have kitchens that cost ten to fifteen times this amount. We rarely see these customers asking what payback the upgraded kitchen will give them. Another good example is people can purchase a nice new economy car for $9,000 that will get them from point A to point B. It serves the basic purpose. However many people drive cars that cost 4 to 6 times this amount for a luxury car that does the same thing, only in style and the payback is never. In reality these larger sportier cars tend to get worse gas mileage. So why, do people construct a half million dollar home, 6 million dollar home or even a two hundred thousand dollar home, have a sixty thousand dollar kitchen and go for the bare bones cheapest air conditioning system possible. I compare this to a Ferrari with a 4 cylinder engine, and AM/FM radio. People that opted for the step up high efficiency Conventional HVAC system simply upgraded their Ferrari engine to a 6 cylinder.

We would like people to remember that today's customers are smarter and expect a better performing home. Many of today's buyers are leaving behind the leaky home with a gas guzzling HVAC system in search of the home that looks and performs better. More and more of today's purchasers are on their way to a fixed income. The only way to isolate yourself from guaranteed energy increases is though the use of our energy efficient systems.

If you have new home you are considering to build, allow your home to perform as well as it looks. Don't skimp on the performance of your home, of course it will cost more upfront and perhaps you may have to cut back on the kitchen design some or downsize the home automation system but you will be glad you did from the first day you move in. There is a reason our systems cost more up front, kind of the same reason you pay more for the nice car and nice kitchen but more logical. Our systems require more labor to install and it takes better skilled tradesmen to install them. Remember the payback on fancy cabinets, fancy tile floors, fancy faucets, fancy landscape lighting, and fancy retaining walls, is NEVER. Many customers are now proud to show off their new Geothermal HVAC or Solar Panel system to their friends, this is where the future is heading.
