Ambient noise can be a big irritant when you are trying to either concentrate on your work or trying to have a peaceful sleep

Airborne sound is the sound which can be heard, such as music being played, a conversation or the sound of a TV.

Flanking Transmission is the passage of sound through floors and walls. These sound paths must be identified and eliminated, before the appropriate acoustic insulation system can be fitted. Flanking Transmission is often a problem in new builds, and especially in refurbishments, where it might not be possible to alter the structure of the building in order to reduce flanking transmission.

Sound control and acoustic insulation is an important consideration in any construction work. More so since there are government legislations which stipulate the permitted noise levels, and also recommend ways to control the noise. UK Building Regulations states that noise is a health and safety hazard, and people have the right to be at home without a threat to their health from noise.

There are different regulations governing new builds and while there are others if you are considering refurbishment for facilitating sound control. If you are contemplating refurbishing an old building, or making changes to your house, office or a hotel, then you would have to use different kind of sound reduction products than if you were constructing a new building.

There are numerous ways of reducing the effects of impact and airborne sound. Acoustic flooring can be an effective option to reduce sound flow between separate floors. Based on the nature of usage of the room, its size and how much noise is usually produced from the room, different kinds of acoustic flooring may be considered. Likewise, a staircase or landing will need a different kind of acoustic flooring than a living room, or a dining room would. Resilient bars and panels can be used effectively to improve sound insulation on walls and ceilings.
