UK Building Regulations states that noise is a health and safety hazard, and people have the right to be at home without a threat to their health from noise.

If you are contemplating refurbishing an old building, or making changes to your house, office or a hotel, then you would have to use different kind of sound reduction products than if you were constructing a new building.

There are numerous ways of reducing the effects of impact and airborne sound. Acoustic flooring can be an effective option to reduce sound flow between separate floors. Based on the nature of usage of the room, its size and how much noise is usually produced from the room, different kinds of acoustic flooring may be considered. Likewise, a staircase or landing will need a different kind of acoustic flooring than a living room, or a dining room would. Resilient bars and panels can be used effectively to improve sound insulation on walls and ceilings.
