Effective Home Remedies for Scars and Blemishes
Scar or cicatrices is a mark or patch on the skin that develops after a skin injury. As the injury or wound starts healing, a thicker patch of skin or fibrous tissue covers up the wound in the form of scar. Thus scars are an indication of the biological healing process. The skin on the scar has a different color when compared to the normal skin tone. It may be a dark patch; a pink one or even shinier. Scars are composed of a protein called collagen, and the collagen alignment in a scar tissue is of inferior functional quality. This explains why hair follicles or sweat glands do not occur again in a scar tissue. The size and look of a scar depends on the size of the wound, the location, age of the victim and the inherited tendency to scars. Scars may be of the following types.
1. Keloid - These scars cover an area which is more than the original wound area. They result in stiffness and immobility.
2. Contracture - These are the results of burns. The skin becomes tightly stretched over bones. They may also interfere with the mobility.
3. Hypertrophic - These scars are formed in the same manner as keloids, but their area remains limited to that of the original wound.
4. Acne - These scars are the result of severe acne attack that may damage the follicles.
Scars usually disappear with time, but some scars are prominent and are the cause of one's embarrassment. One can treat such scars with the help of modern ways like skin grafting, dermabrasion, laser treatment, chemical peels and injections.
