, duration and intensity of your headaches by making improvements to your sleeping habits. There is a chemical which is produced in the brain called serotonin or the "feel good" chemical. This chemical is highly dependent on the amount of sleep a person gets. If you have bad sleeping habits, this could result to an inadequate production of serotonin and may develop a migraine.
The three main causes which may affect the quality of sleep a person gets are: noise, stress and medications (or drugs). If these factors were kept at bay or cut out completely, your sleeping habits would improve.
To ensure yourself a sound sleep, start by turning off the lights when you are going to bed. Another reason you are probably having an issue sleeping is because you may leave the TV on. Try turning it off as well.
If you find it difficult to fall asleep without the TV on, you can set the timer on it so that it goes off in a certain amount of time. Your mind responds to changes in sound patterns even in your sleep. So to have the best sound sleep you can possibly get, try to reduce the amount of noise that is going on around you.
Find ways to eliminate or reduce the stress in your life, it may be difficult to do so but there are ways. One way is by getting enough exercise, which is a great stress reducer.
If you are getting your daily dose of exercise, than you should be improving your sleep quality. However, if you exercise too close to going to bed, you may still have difficulty getting to sleep.
The drug that affects sleep the most is caffeine, so limit your amount during the day and especially close to bed time. Medications and drugs have been known to affect sleep patterns. You should discuss the sleep effects and side effects of the drugs you are prescribed with your doctor.
Keep your caffeine consumption at bay. Stay away from coffee and other drinks which contain caffeine when it is after dinner time. Caffeine is a major migraine trigger.
