Effectiveness Of Lllt In Healing
In many dentist offices clinical lasers have been used to drill or cauterize tissue instead of traditional tools
. Many clinical trials have shown that this method is more effective in working on hard disuse without destroying the tooth or causing damage to the surrounding tissue and underlying pulp. Some lasers, specifically low level lasers known as phototherapy or bio-stimulation lasers can also be used to reduce pain. In many dental practices these are used to reduce inflammation and heal wounds from dental work more quickly.
Recently Stephen Soos has authored additional research to further determine the health effects of using LLLT lasers in various dental conditions. The results were quite promising and may help solidify the use of these lasers in dental practices. As of right now, LLLT therapy is not widely used by many practices. Because the therapy is optional and research has been limited, there is not currently an insurance program that will help cover the cost of this therapy for patients. Since doctors and scientists are currently unable to explain why LLLT therapy is effective or how it works, finding support has proven more difficult.
In this recent study, patients were exposed to different levels of low level laser therapy in dentistry to assist in the healing after their treatments. Studies included the D-lase range laser as well as the KD-lase and KD-lase-X lasers. In the D-lase experiments, patients who underwent extractions saw a significant increase in their heal time, less swelling and little to no pain. People having implants put in saw faster integration and those who underwent surgery required less heal time, suffered less swelling and did not suffer any pain after their operations were completed.
In addition to assisting with painful ailments from surgical procedures,
LLLT lasers were used to assist in the healing of gingival scaling. These patients saw a decrease in their scaling which resulted in less bleeding and discomfort afterward. Those who suffered from hypersensitivity or had developed hypersensitive pulp were also treated with the D-lase during the experiment. These dental lasers were applied at the dentine with gel or at the tooths apex depending on the nature of the condition. Patients who went through the treatment saw an elimination of their hypersensitivity symptoms and no longer suffered pain in these areas.
Positive results were seen in almost all of the patients who participated in the study and continued for a significant amount of time afterwards.
