Effects of Permissive Parenting Style
It is for a fact that parenthood is never easy. Parents have to make sure that their kids grow and become responsible and with morals. Over the time, there have been many parenting styles and techniques that were discovered and one of these is the permissive parenting style. Such style has become one of the most controversial parenting styles and has acquired numerous criticisms. In this article we will try to find out and understand what permissive parenting really is.
Also known as indulgent parenting style, permissive parenting is when parents raise their kids without making any demands or setting any expectations from them. Parents often bond with their kids but they never teach them how to behave properly. The main effect of this style is kids will be more responsible with their actions and they also have the freedom to choose. On the other hand, it can also cause kids to become spoiled.
Children are not given limits with their behavior in this type of parenting style. Parents put all their love and attention to their children to the fullest and they don't correct any wrong behavior or even inform the kids that what they are doing is wrong. In this parenting style, parents are laid back and they firmly believe that kids are given liberty to make their own decisions and the parents should give them their utmost support.
The downside of permissive parenting is that it tends to develop and create spoiled kids because of too much liberty the parents are giving them. As young children, they are not really aware of the concept of right and wrong and this parenting style doesn't help them learn the difference of the two. Permissive parenting may cause children to behave in an undesirable manner and would become harsh if not given what they wanted. Adolescents growing up under permissive parenting may also get involved in anti-social activities.
This type of parenting style is said to be perfect for the kids who are shy-type and laid-back since it allows them to develop and grow. However, it isn't good for kids who are strong willed and headstrong for this will just allow them to become rebellious.
These are just some basic information regarding permissive parenting. May you have figured out what type of parenting style that suits the type of child you have. Just remember that as parents it is your obligation to teach what is right and wrong aside from being loving and supportive.
