Back when I was in school, I had a roommate who weighed more than 40 lbs less than me even though she was as tall as me and about the same size.


I was envious of her, but after going to the gym constantly, for years, in hopes of achieving perfect bodies, we told our secrets.

We found out that one should not base progress on what could be a subjective weight.

Using bacon, a personal trainer showed me that muscle generally weighs more than fat. It upset me to know that, after a certain point, I could not lose weight by exercising.


I was surprised to learn that protein wasn't a part of muscle building meals when my old roommate showed me how she would prepare for body building contests.

She also let me know that she had actually always been jealous of my diet and body, even though I weighed more than her.

So how did she gain muscle quickly? You can't get muscle quickly by consuming protein shakes or eating lots of carbs, but by eating certain foods: buckwheat noodles, lean ground beef, broccoli, cottage cheese, tuna fish, turkey breast, and egg whites.

She would begin her muscle building by cutting carbohydrates from her diet, getting really hungry, and then adding the muscle building diet she had planned.

She let me know that it wasn't easy, but always ended with good results. Instead of gaining only fat, as one does on a weight gaining diet, this diet allows one to gain useful muscle mass.

She let me know that it is always so hard, but definitely paid off in the end.

This diet is different than one used to gain weight, because you don't only gain fat, which isn't appealing or useful.
